The Department of English was started in 2012, has been teaching English Literature at undergraduate and postgraduate levels since 2015. The Department is also responsible for the Part II: General English courses mandatory for all undergraduate programmes. Since its beginning, the Department has aimed to train and equip students of the college with language skills to enable them to communicate effectively in their work spaces. To this end the Department has planned its lessons to incorporate requisite elements essential for communication in English like grammar, LSRW skills and vocabulary exercises. The department is also aware of the changing trends in the industry and has introduced courses in English for Communication as theory and practical classes. This makes the syllabus contemporary and relevant. Students leave the college equipped with language skills and the confidence to participate in group discussions, personal interviews and written tests.
The department is a flourishing academic community of teacher-scholars, who are dedicated to sharing their expertise in various fields of their specialization. Always performance-driven, the members of the distinguished faculty are continually committed to providing the best possible education to the Undergraduate, and Postgraduate students. The faculty members are experts in fields such as Renaissance Literature, Postcolonial Literature, English Studies and India Studies, Ecocriticism and Eco literature, American Literature, Shakespeare Studies, World Drama and Linguistics, English Language Teaching, Gender Studies, Feminism, Ecocriticism, Theatre Studies, Music and Literature and Literary Stylistics. Besides this, the department provides the Part II English students at the college with the knowledge of the four language skills- Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing. Our approach to English language learning utilizes the Communicative English Teaching Method, a way of teaching that employs a number of holistic techniques to English grammar, English vocabulary, spoken English, English listening, and English reading and writing. Our holistic techniques prioritize the ability to use these English skills in real-world situations.
The Department comprises a dedicated team of faculty members who seek to instill a love for the language and effective communication skills in their students. They use a variety of teaching methodologies to ensure that students come to be confident users of the English language. Role play, seminars, individual and group paper presentations, quizzes, debates and group discussions are some of the activities conducted in class to encourage student participation and interaction.

Course Details
The duration of the Post Graduate course is of two academic years comprising four semesters. This course offers English language and literary studies, theories, criticism and pedagogy. The course provides the students with the study from Anglo-Saxon period till modern time covering various socio- cultural trainings. They benefit much in studying wide variety of literature and cultural theories. They develop skills for employment or for further study. They are equipped with an in-depth knowledge of a wide spectrum of genres and writers. They acquire communicative skills and a global perspective of English language.
They also understand the multicultural context of English language and literature in global as well as Indian domain. They acquire research skills which provide scope to widen their perspective in research. There is an opportunity to explore wide range of texts from different periods.
